Stipple drawing of the wool store's sawtooth roof: four glass-faced teeth over a brick wall, with the front bar door lit.

350 people under a sawtooth roof

The main room was a wool-sorting floor. The roof's glass teeth face south, so the room is bright for afternoon matinees and dark enough for anything at night.

The room was tuned by sound engineers who used to play in it before it was a venue. It sounds as good from the bar as from the front.

One Sunday a month, kids come too

Our all-ages matinee starts at 2pm and finishes by 5. Under-12s free with an adult.

The main room is 16 by 24 metres with the stage, 8 by 5 metres, at the north end, the bar and stools along the east wall, four columns, and the sound desk with the raised viewing platform beside it. A WC opens off the west wall. Through double doors to the south is the front bar, which holds 80, with a small stage, the entry from the lane, and the quiet room off its east side.STAGE8 x 5 MMAIN ROOM350 STANDINGBARDESKPLATFORMFRONT BAR80 STANDINGQUIET ROOMWC16.0 M24.0 M13.0 MNTHE SAWTOOTHGROUND FLOORSHEET A-101SCALE 1:100ENTRY FROM THE LANE

What regulars say

“Best sound in Freo, and the posters are worth the ticket on their own. I’ve got eleven on my wall.”
